Chief Scout Award badges –

In response to feedback, the badges and certificates for the Chief Scout Awards, have been redesigned, with the current items remaining valid until stocks are rundown. Young people selected a design that stands out, reflecting the high level of achievement of this award. County have put together some ideas to help young people achieve their Chief Scout Awards. Last night we celebrated our success over the last year at our District AGM… check out our annual report video showing all the fun and adventure enjoyed members of the district over the past 12 months.

I hope you had a good Christmas/New Year break and are ready to go again providing everyday adventure for young people in your group/unit.

January is often a time people make New Year’s Resolutions (good luck with yours if you have). Mine is to get back to circulating these update emails every couple of weeks to share good news and let you know what’s coming up. So here goes…

1st Kings Langley open second Cub Pack

First piece of good news this year is that 1st Kings Langley have re-opened the “Tiger” CUb Pack on Tuesday evening. Thanks and good luck to Sue, Tammy and the rest of the group!

District Adviser (International)

The County are keen to appoint a District International Adviser in each district given one of the three themes in the new programme for all sections is ‘WORLD’ covering all aspects of global and international issues.

This is an opportunity to appoint someone who has perhaps experienced a World Scout Jamboree, an Expedition overseas or has shown an interest in international issues such as global warming, food miles, poverty or malaria prevention.  Read the role description and drop me a line if you’re interested.

Intermediate Mountaineering Course

The County have released detail of this Easter’s trip to Lochearnhead – take a look at the IMC 2015 flyer if you’re interested.

In May, June and July 2014, all Scouts (10-14 year olds) had the chance to participate in a district rifle shooting competition during a normal troop evening. We arranged for each troop to spend one evening (more for larger troops) using the range at Phasels Wood and kept track of the scores to announce the winning troop (with scores averaged) as well as top three 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14 year olds.

In total 228 Scouts from all 13 troops took part.

Thanks to Jason, Sarah, Georgia, Chris and Vince for running the sessions over the last 3 months!

The results can alos be seen at: www.hemel-scouts.co.uk/activities/rifle-shooting/

Thank you to Katie-Anne, Jason and Kieran for their efforts organising the event and to the Explorer Scouts who helped man the bases.
