If you have a new treasurer or haven’t been claiming GiftAid for a while because you’re not sure how to, I’ve received these guides, produced by another district, which help explain how to register, how to record claimable income and how to make the claim itself:

What is GiftAid?

Gift Aid is a simple government initiative which allows donors to increase the value of their donations at no extra cost to them. For every pound given, charities can get an extra 25 pence from HM Revenue & Customs, helping donations go further.

So what does this mean in real terms?  If a Group had 50 members paying £60 per year it would give them a total income of £3,000 per year.  Assuming all of the parents/guardians are tax payers then the potential Gift Aid is around £750 per year.

If you have not claimed Gift Aid before you are entitled to claim back the previous four years contributions

Our sixth annual Awards Evening will be held in October, hosted as always by the Mayor of Dacorum at “the Forum”.

In order to send out the invitations to all young people, we need you to inform us of anyone who has received their awards between 1st September 2017 – 31 August 2018.

This year, it’s even easier to do than before – please just complete the online form at:

If you prefer to copy the details into a spreadsheet from existing records, please complete the attached template and return to awards@hemel-scouts.co.uk

THE DEADLINE TO DO THIS IS 31st JULY – OTHERWISE YOUNG PEOPLE MAY NOT RECEIVE THEIR INVITATIONS.

If you have already submitted cards via the Scout Shop, we will send these to you to check (we’re just finishing compiling the list).

As discussed at the April Scout  & Explorer leader’s meeting, we agreed that the information about future Scout-Explorer linking events should be sent to ALL adults in the Scout section…. Please find attached the flyer about the next linking event.

We also agreed that each section would supply the names and contact details for the Scouts who should be invited (those due to move up to Explorers in September) in order that Maureen can send them a personal invitation.

Please submit these names to Maureen (desa@hemelexplorers.org.uk) as soon as possible – ideally by Wednesday (4th July) evening.

The Scout Network is Scouting’s fifth section – open to members aged 18 – 24. Members take part in a variety of activities, which they undertake and organise themselves with the support of the district’s Scout Network team.

I have attached a copy of the forthcoming programme which contains adventurous, outdoors, social activities, weekends away and taking part in national Scout Network camps. The programme also contributes to the Queen’s Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh award scheme.

If you’re interested, our district’s Scout Network is co-ordinated by Kirsty & Natasha, you can contact them using the email address: network@hemel-scouts.co.uk

Kirsty will be contacting all members of the district aged 17.5 – 25 shortly to invite them along to the next few evenings/events.
