Hemel Hempstead District Scouts Sailing Sessions

Booking is now Open for the Taster Sessions. Course bookings will open on 11^th May. Stage 2+ Sailors please book the 2+ places.

Thursday evening dinghy sailing for Cubs and Scouts at Bury Lake, Rickmansworth.

Individual Cubs or Scouts from Hemel Hempstead District can go dinghy sailing this summer! These sessions are run at the Bury Lake Young Mariners centre by qualified and experienced leaders from around the District (your own Group’s leaders will not be running this activity).

We would also be delighted to hear from parents qualified or not who would like to come and support these activities.

Dates

26^th April, 3^rd, 10^th, 17^th, 24^th May– Evening sessions. Come to one or more –It will be the same. Lots of activities on the water and experience of sailing.

7^th 14^th, 21^st, 28^th June, 5^th, 12^th July evenings – Structured courses learning to sail and leading to the award of a Stage 1 or 2 Sailing Activity badge and RYA certificates

 

Saturday 14^th July – A days sailing for Cubs and Scouts for those who have completed Stage one or two dinghy sailing. Details will become available during the season.

Update

Sailing day at BLYM 14^th July

We will be sailing at Bury Lake on Saturday 14^th July 10-12.30 and 1.30-4 if your child would like to join us for one or both sessions. Cost will be £5 per session and transport will NOT be provided. Email Sue if you are interested and book as normal.

Transport (Limited numbers)

Minibus transport for Thursday evenings is limited and included in the cost. It will leave Pets at Home, Apsley PROMPTLY at 5.30pm. Please indicate on booking if you are able to transport your child. Sailors need to be at Rickmansworth by 6.15 to make the most of daylight, we cannot wait around for people ! The minibus will return for about 9.00pm (9.45pm on last session in July). When we have a BBQ & presentation at the end of the session.

Cost

Each fun/taster session will cost £6. The Staged Activity badge courses will cost £40 and sailors will need to attend all the sessions to be eligible for an RYA qualification. It is strongly advised that all Stage 1 participants attend a taster session prior to the course starting. All fees to be paid in advance directly to the organisers via the website NOT to your own leaders. There will be no refunds unless due to circumstances beyond our control we have to cancel a session.

How to apply

All applications and payment have to be made via the Hemel Hempstead Scouts website: www.hemel-scouts.co.uk/activities/sailing/ . On receipt of the on-line application form and payment, further information and a permission form will be sent out. Places will not be reserved until the permission form has been returned! Confirmation will be sent by email.

Other opportunities

Parents of any competent sailors who have already attained Stage 2 activity badge (or RYA Stage 2) and would like to practice their sailing on a Thursday evening are welcome. Seats on the mini bus will only be available if the session is not sold out and will be offered if available, contact Sue Gill for details on  sailing@hemel-scouts.co.uk
