July 2015 may seem like a long way off but I have received two fantastic pieces of news regarding the Jamboree in 2015 and wanted to share with you the timetable for promoting, selecting and supporting our representatives.
Spaces allocated to Hemel Hempstead
- We have been allocated spaces for 5 young people to attend the Jamboree!
- David Woodall (Group Chairman, 1st Apsley) has been selected as a deputy unit leader for one of the Hertfordshire Units
I’m sure you’ll join me in congratulating David on his selection and wishing him well on this exciting two-year long commitment.
Promoting the World Scout Jamboree
Towards the end of the Summer term, all young people eligible for the 2015 Jamboree will receive information about how to apply for the selection weekend (5th/6th October 2013). I am looking for a team of people to visit each troop and unit during the first two weeks of September – please let me know if you’re interested in doing this.
Selecting our 5 participants
A selection weekend will be held on 5th – 6th October (venue TBC) – there are two ways to be part of this:
- Any adult in the district is welcome to attend to observe candidates and contribute to the selection process
- A small team will be formed to organise the event (led by Helen Bassett)
Please let me know if you’re interested in being part in of the selection weekend in either capacity.
Supporting those attending
In early 2014 a support group will be formed to share the Jamboree experience with everyone in the district and raise funds. This usually includes representatives from the group/units participants are part of, parents and other members of the district.
You can find out more about the UK’s participation in the 23rd World Scout Jamboree at their website or about our plans as they develop at www.hemel-scouts.co.uk/jamboree-2015
