Membership fee 2020 – district, county & national

Ahead of the new year, it is time to share details of the 2020 membership fees which will be charged by all levels of the Scouting infrastructure which exists to support Scout Groups deliver Scouting on the front line.

  • District Levy – £7.00 (unchanged since 2016)
  • County Levy – £13.50 (the same as 2019)
  • National Levy – £29 (increased by £1 from 2019) – with a 50p rebate for prompt payment

Total = £49.50 less the 50p rebate – therefore £49 per youth member if paid by the middle of March (exact date to be confirmed by Dave Fleming early in 2020).

District budget 2020

Due to continued efficiencies and good financial management, the district have been able to keep the distict levy at the same level it’s been since 2016, whilst still planning to increase the spending/investment in the following areas:

  • Purchasing programme resources to support DIY, orienteering, scientist and circus skills badges – with other resources for other badges planned for 2020.
  • District-wide Cub archery and Scout rifle shooting competitions in 2020
  • Training for adults – from minibus permits to adventurous activity permit training & assessments
  • Making loans available to Scout Groups to help fund building improvements
  • Supporting the cost of adult training and funding lunches for those who attend
  • Funding various annual events – swimming gala, the awards evening etc
  • Young Leader training

County income/expenditure breakdown

Please find a document attached from the County which details how they raise income and how the expenditure is allocated.

Who pays the £49 membership fee?

As usual, the £49 is charged to each youth member (under 18) – young leaders incur no charge to Scout Groups if they are paying monthly subscriptions to the Explorer Scout section – otherwise the Scout Group will be charged.
