Hemel Hempstead District Scouts Sailing Sessions 2020

Open to all Explorers, Scouts and Cubs over 8 years of age.
Thursday evening dinghy sailing for Cubs, Scouts and Explorers at Bury Lake, Rickmansworth.
Individual Explorers, Cubs or Scouts from Hemel Hempstead District can go dinghy sailing this summer! These sessions are run at the Bury Lake Young Mariners centre by qualified and experienced leaders from around the District (your own Group’s leaders will not be running this activity).
We would also be delighted to hear from parents qualified or not who would like to come and support these activities.
Taster sessions
Dates -Thursdays 7^th, 14^th, 21^st May – Thursday evening taster sessions. Youngsters can come to one or both – the programme will be the same. Lots of activities on the water and experience of sailing. They will qualify for a Time on the Water badge too!
Further dates will be released when we know the take up of badge courses.
Scout Badge Courses
Thursdays 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th June, 2nd, 9th July evenings –  Structured courses learning to sail and leading to the award of a Stage 1 or 2 Sailing Activity badge and RYA certificates. It would be an advantage to youngsters to have been on at least one taster session before enrolling on Stage 1. Applicants for Stage 2 must have the Stage 1 badge or RYA stage 1 youth sailing award which they can do at BLYM independently. They will need to complete all the sessions to get the awards.

Transport
Minibus transport for all the Thursday evenings is included in the cost. It will leave Apsley PROMPTLY at 5.30pm. We need to be at Rickmansworth by 6.15 to make the most of daylight so we cannot wait around for people! The minibus will return for about 9.00pm (9.45pm on 9^th July). Parents wishing to transport their own children are welcome to do so but will need to be at the lake on time and MUST HAVE BOOKED. Mini bus spaces are limited to 12

Cost Each fun/taster session will cost £12. The Staged Activity badge courses will cost £72 and sailors will need to attend all the sessions to be eligible for an RYA qualification. It is strongly advised that all Stage 1 participants attend a taster session prior to the course starting. All fees to be paid in advance directly to the organisers via the website NOT to your own leaders. There will be no refunds unless due to circumstances beyond our control we have to cancel a session or the place can be filled from the waiting list.

How to apply
All applications and payment have to be made via the Hemel Hempstead Scouts website: www.hemel-scouts.co.uk/activities/sailing/ . On receipt of the on-line application form and payment, further information and a permission form will be sent out. Places will not be reserved until the permission form has been returned! Confirmation will be sent by email.
